Awarded by the Institute of Leadership & Management, this professional qualification will develop your skills in a variety of areas to give you confidence to lead your team through the spectrum of management challenges that can arise.

This blended learning course offers a combination of online learning and study days allowing for home study with regular tutorial support and college-based lectures on key topics.

You will gain a range of key management skills and build on your leadership capabilities by learning how to motivate and engage teams and confidently manage relationships.

Entry requirements

There are no formal academic entry requirements to undertake this programme.

We welcome applications from both those who are working in a supervisory/leadership role and those who are looking to gain this qualification to progress into such a role. If you are in the latter situation please note that you must have the opportunity to meet the assessment demands – please contact us if you have any questions about this.

Membership of the Institute of Leadership & Management (ILM)

As a student on this programme you will receive free studying membership with the Institute of Leadership & Management which will give you access to a range of invaluable tools and resources. Studying memberships lasts for the length of your programme or a minimum of six months.

Course content

You will need to achieve 13 credits. These include completion of units such as:

  • Understanding leadership
  • Planning and allocating work
  • Setting team objectives in the workplace
  • Understanding stress management in the workplace
  • Understanding conflict management in the workplace
  • Understanding discipline in the workplace
  • Understanding recruitment and selection of new staff in the workplace
  • Understanding health and safety in the workplace

Assessment

You will complete written assignments, written questions, reflective reviews and learning logs.

Location

You will be required to attend two study weekends, these are held at our Huntingdon centre.

Attendance

Online lectures and tutorials will be augmented by case studies, self-directed research and two study weekends. This method of learning allows for personalised, flexible study and the opportunity to work with your tutor and share experiences and ideas with fellow students.

Progression and career opportunities

This is a well-respected qualification that will be a professional addition to your CV and stand you in good stead when applying for managerial or supervisory positions. Upon completion of the Level 3 Leadership and Management qualification, depending on your management experience you will become an Associate Member (AMInstLM) or Member (MInstLM) of the ILM.

After completing this qualification, if you are working in a leadership role, you may wish to progress onto the Level 5 Certificate in Leadership and Management programme which will prepare you for senior management positions.

If you are not currently working in a leadership or managerial role and this is something you aspire to do, this qualification will increase your chances of securing such a position.

Special VPMA Offer – If you are employed in a veterinary practice you can now sign up to this course for a special price of just £950 (Annual Fee) or £80 per month (Pay as You Learn) plus £110 awarding body fees and also receive a year’s free Veterinary Practice Management Association (VPMA) membership. All 2015/16 TP Congress and Head Nurse Congress delegates can also enrol onto this course for the special price of just £950 plus awarding body fees.
