VN Practical Day: Becoming Your Best Surgical Nurse

Monday 28 June 2027 9:30 am - 4:00 pm CAW Leeds
£396 (£330 +VAT)

Develop your confidence, knowledge and practical skills in surgical nursing and minor surgical procedures. Combining focused lectures, clinical discussion and hands-on practical sessions, we’ll explore suturing, wound management, skin biopsies, superficial mass removal, aural haematoma repair, selected amputations, feeding tube placement and the Seldinger technique for long-stay vascular catheter placement.

Delivered by Dan Kenny BVSc CertAVP(GSAS) DipECVS MRCVS, this practical session will provide delegates with the opportunity to develop and refine their instrument handling and suturing skills from the core fundamental foundations of good surgical technique. We’ll cover safe technique, tissue handling, surgical planning, complication recognition and high-quality postoperative care - with plenty of hands-on tips and tricks along the way.

By the end of the course, delegates will be able to:

  1. Understand and apply Schedule 3 principles to clinical practice
  2. Demonstrate and refine practical surgical skills, including suturing, tissue handling, wound closure, skin biopsy techniques and appropriate use of surgical instruments.
  3. Describe and apply the principles of selected minor surgical and supportive procedures
  4. Assess surgical patients and their wounds effectively, recognising potential complications, planning appropriate nursing care and identifying when veterinary assessment, intervention or escalation is required.

Interested in exhibiting at our events?

  • Limited exhibitor numbers - Unlike larger congresses where hundreds of exhibitors often mean that visitors will not remember everyone, exhibition space for these events is strictly limited. As such you will get the opportunity to engage with the delegates attending our congresses personally.
  • Make meaningful business connections – Network with those that influence decision making in veterinary practice and make relevant industry contacts virtually.
  • Cost effective – with exhibitor packages starting from just £55+VAT, our prices offer value for money and fall considerably below that of larger events within the industry.
