Courses

Our City & Guilds Functional Skills courses in mathematics and English cover the key skills needed to progress, not only within the workplace, but in further education and training too; paving the way to both personal and professional development.

In order to make learning as accessible as possible, we have developed online, distance learning courses that allow learners who may not be able to attend College to still access quality training in the comfort of their own home or workplace.

All courses can be started at any time and are hosted on the College’s Virtual Learning Environment (VLE). After enrolment you will be given a username and password which will provide you with access to the VLE and all your online material. You will also be allocated a distance learning tutor who will guide and support you through your programme via email and microsoft teams.

Although there is no need to attend college as all study materials are provided online, you will, however, be required to attend one of The College of Animal Welfare centres to complete the online examination. In some circumstances it may be possible for the examination to be taken remotely, but an exam fee may be incurred.

What are Functional Skills?

Functional Skills are a range of qualifications that cover the key skills needed in order to get ahead in life, work and training.

Undertaking a qualification in Functional Skills offers many benefits. Developing skills such as communication and problem solving, for example, is a great way to increase confidence and give yourself the freedom to take charge of tasks and situations that you might have ordinarily relied upon others to handle in the past.
