Are you working as a dog groomer – qualified by experience? Do you want the opportunity to gain the level 2 City & Guilds qualification to enable you to progress onto the level 3 diploma and achieve professional groomer status?
If so, this fast track evening course could be for you! You will attend four evening theory sessions and one or two practical sessions at College for assessment during the working day.
Start date: 20 February 2019
Attendance and duration: Delegates will attend four Wednesday evenings at College from 5.30pm-8pm on the following dates:
20 February 2019, 27 February 2019, 6 March 2019 and 13 March 2019.
In addition, you will attend one or two practical sessions during the working day for assessment purposes between 25 February 2019 and 29 March 2019.
You will then attend College on Wednesday 10 April between 10am and 4pm for in-class assessment and your final City & Guilds examination.
Classroom lessons will look at the following areas:
- Week one: Registration, induction and exam techniques
- Week two: Dog behaviour
- Week three: Animal health and basic first aid
- Week four: Legislation
You will complete written and practical assessments as well as passing an online examination.
There are no formal academic requirements. You should have a minimum of five years’ experience of working as a dog groomer and be able to provide suitable references.
Application and interview process
All applicants are interviewed and offers for a place on the course are competitive. During the application process you will undertake basic maths and English assessments and, during your interview, you will take a tour of the centre and facilities, complete a written task, and discuss your suitability for the programme.
Course fees must be paid in full prior to the start of the course.
If you have not achieved your qualification by the planned end date detailed in your individual learning plan, you will be able to continue to receive support and access to your course by paying monthly direct debit payments until certification of your award.

Completion of this course will allow you to progress onto the City & Guilds Level 3 Diploma in Dog Grooming programme. A fast-track version of this course is planned for 2019.
