Are you looking to work on the frontline of an organisation that ends cruelty, promotes kindness to and alleviates suffering of animals?

We’re recruiting a Veterinary Surgeon to join us at our Ashley Heath Animal Centre in Ringwood on a 12 month fixed term, part time basis to share responsibility with our existing in-house Veterinary Surgeon.

As part of the larger Animal Centre team, this role allows you to have a unique relationship with the animals on site, from intake, rehabilitation through to rehoming, enabling a full case continuity. This role also provides access to the wider RSPCA veterinary team, allowing potential for further opportunities and visits to other facilities.

Here at Ashley Heath RSPCA most of the animals have been rescued from neglect and bad treatment by their previous owners. They may arrive terrified and it's up to us to try and work out why and bring them round to trusting people again. We do this on a daily basis with a dedicated team that we're extremely proud of. The work can be tough, both physically and emotionally but very rewarding.

We look after and re-home cats, dogs, rabbits and other small domestic animals - at any one time we could be caring for over 180 animals. It’s inspiring to think how much more of a difference we can make. If you’d like to be a part of one of the UK’s best known and respected animal welfare organisations, this is your opportunity.

What you’ll be doing as an RSPCA Veterinary Surgeon:

  • Performing consultations and treatment on animals within our care

  • Demonstrating competence across veterinary disciplines, including;

    • Soft tissue surgery

    • Ophthalmology

    • Clinical pathology

    • Shelter medicine

  • Training Centre staff in standard procedures and protocols

  • Implementing RSPCA policies in regards to the re-homability of stray animals including decision making on individual cases

You’ll have:

  • Membership of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons

  • Previous clinical experience

  • Charity sector experience (desirable)

  • A professional approach to veterinary care and clinic practice

  • Excellent time management skills

What’s in it for you:

You’ll have an opportunity to work for the largest animal welfare charity in England and Wales.

We value and recognise our employees’ contribution and are proud to offer an extensive benefits package that includes:

14 hours Tuesday and Friday standard working week (FTE 35 hours), 10 days annual leave (25 FTE) plus bank holidays increasing to 30 days with service (pro rata for part time); a generous pension scheme with associated life assurance and group income protection scheme; access to private healthcare scheme; support for professional development after qualifying period and access to our employee assistance programme.
