Registered Veterinary Nurse
Name: Hook Norton Veterinary Group
Address: White Hills Surgery, Sibford Rd,, OX15 5DG
We are a modern, forward-thinking practice with separate pet, farm and equine departments and over 30 dedicated vets providing round-the-clock care. We are proud to be one of the founding members of XLVets, a group of privately-owned veterinary practices spanning the length and breadth of the UK, working together to share veterinary ideas, knowledge, and skills. We value everyone as an individual. Whilst the practice is no longer a small family-run business, everyone (vets, nurses, admin) within the business has a family, and we welcome them into our HNVG family.
Each individual is a cog in the HNVG team, and we know that we need to all be turning in the right direction to keep the ship sailing smoothly. This is why we push ourselves to help everyone achieve the right work-life balance. We have an active Thriving in Practice initiative, and once COVID allows, we will be able to get together socially. Fingers crossed for our 40th Anniversary party in September! As well as Thriving in Practice, clinical mentoring is offered via designated internal staff and complemented with a career pathway designed to support your long-term aspirations. With the aim of delivering the best care for your pets, horses, and livestock, we are committed to providing a professional modern veterinary service with traditional values in an approachable compassionate manner.
Job location: Oxfordshire | West Midlands
Position: Full time
Closes in: 6 days (Monday 31 January 2022)
We have an immediate vacancy for an RVN to join our large SA Nursing team at our Hospital at Hook Norton. We are a busy first opinion practice, you would be joining a well-established team that includes 12 RVN’s and 5 Student Nurses. We have developed a structured career pathway to support your ambition anywhere from Nursing Assistant to Senior Nurse and are therefore welcoming applications from RVN’s at any stage of their career.
Although we are a mixed practice, your role would be working solely in the Small Animal Team. We have a fully dedicated and outstanding Reception Team and an OOH answering service so you can spend your time ensuring the welfare of our animals and delivering clinical care to the highest standard.
Our full-time role is 40 hours per week which can be worked 4 x 10-hour shifts with inclusion in the weekend OOH rota (days and nights), currently 1:5. We are proud to provide our own OOH to our clients and there are no mid-week nights for this role as we have our own dedicated mid-week Night Nurses. There is no lone working as we also have our own Night Vet Team and additional Nursing Assistant support when required.
We recognise the importance of a good work/life balance and therefore if full time doesn’t suit your circumstances, we are open to part-time working patterns which could include fewer weekdays or even working weekends only as an option.
Ideally, we are looking for a permanent RVN but in the interim, we are open to Locum’s and are currently exempt from some of the IR35 legislation.
The role includes all aspects of nursing within a busy hospital and branchenvironment using state of the art equipment and includes an element of Lab work. We see a great variety of cases and a number of emergencies daily so being able to multi-task and respond to urgent requests calmly and efficiently is a great quality to bring. The SA Team including all the Vets, Nurses and Receptionists are fully committed to providing the very best care and you will find our ethos is to support each other fully until each case is complete.
A DAY IN THE LIFE AT HNVG
Our nurses “nurse” and use schedule 3 techniques daily. Duties include blood sampling, intubation, IV catheter placement and much more. Nurses rotate in different roles, ensuring you see and care for a wide variety of cases. The two main roles are a Kennels Nurse, with inpatients, including intensive care, and day patients in your care. Or an Ops Nurse, where you play a vital role in peri-operative nursing. Each day is busy and varied, with 3x consult streams and an ops schedule where 12+ ops a day is normal for us.
We actively encourage all our nurses to undertake certificates; the opportunity is there if you want it! Currently, we have 3 nurses undertaking the RCVS accredited Advanced Veterinary Nursing Certificates.
