Voo Veterinary Group are offering the opportunity for three people who are passionate about becoming a veterinary nurse to experience all parts of veterinary care to become well-rounded and experienced in all sectors of vet nursing. The candidates will be driven to provide excellence in care and standards to our patients and clients.

  • Salary: £15,704 for your first year, then could increase depending on your age. The aim is to have all qualified nurses on £27,000-£30,000 following completion of the course.
  • Hours: Monday to Friday with 1 in 3 Saturdays. Between 33-40 hours a week. Shift patterns may vary, but a normal shift structure is a mixture of earlies (8:30-17:15) and lates (10:15-19:00).

  • College: You will undertake day release veterinary nursing apprenticeship training through The College of Animal Welfare

What you will do:

  • Reception skills and client communication
  • High level disinfection or clinic organisation with stock control and daily cleans of the wards and equipment
  • Take part in patient husbandry from walking, feeding, cleaning bedding, grooming and administering medications
  • Patient handling for a variety of species
  • Sedation and general anaesthesia monitoring
  • Patient recovery
  • Laboratory work on a variety of internal machines
  • Learn to take bloods and place IVs
  • Learn to position for radiographs
  • Witness and assist in referral surgeries alongside diplomats and certificate holders
  • Conduct nursing consults when required
  • We encourage our nurses to be practical and hands-on, learning skills to enable blood taking, IV placements and radiograph positioning so they can support the vets in patient care and be part of the process to improving patients' lives!

Entry Requirements

A minimum of 5 GCSEs (grade A*-C or 9-4) including English Language, Maths and Science.

You should be good at multitasking, be eager to learn, work well in group settings and work well on your own.

After this apprenticeship

  • Full time employment position with outcome to continue employment after the 2.5-3 year course duration and progress your career further.
  • Once qualified, there are plenty of opportunities to progress, whether that’s with certificates in particular fields, becoming a senior nurse and mentoring new apprenticeship or pathway to more managerial positions.
