Apprentice Veterinary Nurse – Bradford

This apprenticeship, in an independent small animal first opinion practice, gives the applicant the skills required to begin a career as a veterinary nurse. You will be supported and trained by a friendly, supportive team and coach to help you achieve the qualifications to become an RVN. You will undertake the Veterinary Nurse Level 3 Apprenticeship with The College of Animal Welfare.

Entry requirements: You must have a minimum of 5 GCSEs (grade A*-C or 9-4) including Maths, English Language and a Science.

You will also need to be able to help, hold and lift large dogs, so an element of physical fitness is required, along with the emotional capability to deal with upsetting or challenging cases.

Hours: Minimum of 30 hours a week. Shift patterns can be discussed, including some Saturday morning. No OOH, no bank holidays.

What you'll do at work

  • Helping throughout the practice in a client-facing role
  • Set up kennels, assist with animal handling and care in hospital
  • Lab work - bloods, microscope, urinalysis
  • Prepare theatre, assist during surgery and monitor anaesthetics
  • Pharmacy - help prepare prescriptions
  • Assist with vet and nurse consults
  • Confidently answer phone and book appointment
