This qualification covers the fundamental principles of mental health and wellbeing, equipping you with the knowledge to understand key concepts, characteristics and influencing factors. It is designed to raise awareness and promote positive mental health practices in everyday life and across a variety of workplace settings.
You will explore how to support your own wellbeing and that of others through effective communication, positive relationships, and the creation of supportive environments. You will also learn practical strategies for building personal resilience, managing stress, adapting to change, and maintaining emotional balance.

What will you study?
You will work through online learning materials in your own time to gain an understanding of wellbeing and mental health, and how to promote positive mental health practices in your own everyday life and within your workplace.
You’ll learn how to:
- Understand the concepts, characteristics and influencing factors of wellbeing and mental health
- Support wellbeing and mental health through effective communication, positive relationships and supportive environments
- Develop personal resilience and strategies for managing stress and change
Assessment
You will undertake a multiple-choice knowledge test, this can be taken in one of our college centres (Huntingdon, Leeds or North London) or by remote exam invigilation from your home or place of work.
Start dates
Our online, distance learning courses can be started at any time. You will work through your online course materials at a time that is convenient to you and be supported by a personal tutor.
Entry requirements
There are no formal academic requirements to start this course.
Please note: As our courses include online learning components, students are required to have access to a PC or laptop with a reliable internet connection.

Awarding Body Fees
All students or employers are required to pay the following awarding body fees in addition to the course fees. Please note that these are recharged at cost and may be subject to change.
- City & Guilds registration fee: £25
- If you choose to undertake your exam by remote invigilation, an additional charge of £34 will apply.

No. This qualification is suitable for people who work in any setting. It can also be taken by volunteers, students, or individuals supporting family, friends or members of the community. Examples can be adapted to realistic everyday situations, not just professional roles.
Is this course about diagnosing mental health conditions?
No. This qualification is not clinical and does not train you to diagnose or treat mental illness. It focuses on recognising signs that someone is struggling, offering appropriate support, maintaining boundaries, and knowing when and how to signpost.
How does the online course work?
