About us

We are an animal welfare charity working to improve life for dogs, cats and the people in our community – at our home in London and internationally. Mayhew’s Community Vet Clinic provides free and low-cost veterinary care for all pet owners and our in-house animals, whilst they await adoption. The services we offer include low-cost neutering, vaccinations, nurse clinics, microchipping and flea/worming treatments. We are accredited under the RCVS Practice Standards Scheme and have achieved silver standard in the ISFM ‘cat friendly clinic’ programme. We are also an approved training practice for student veterinary nurses and offer training opportunities under our International Vet Training Programme.

The role

We have a rare and exciting opportunity for a Head Registered Veterinary Nurse to join our modern, bright and spacious vet clinic and lead our team of 10 RVN’s, SVN’s and PCA’s. The successful candidate will work closely with the Senior Vet and the Practice Manager to develop and promote the clinic services. The Head Nurse will utilise their leadership skills to motivate the team to deliver excellent service and develop the great skill set that our team already possess. The successful candidate will have excellent nursing skills with high standards as this position is very much a hands-on role. Previous experience of being a Clinical Coach would be a benefit, though training will be provided if necessary.

In addition to the nursing aspect of the role, the Head Nurse is responsible for line management of Nursing staff, including appraisals and regular one to ones. You will also be responsible for staff rotas and approving annual leave requests. We are very proud to have recently obtained accreditation under the RCVS Practice Standards scheme. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring our high standards are maintained and successful reapproval is granted.

This is a full time permanent position, working 35 hours a week, Monday to Friday 8.30am to 4.30pm. Flexibility is expected with these hours to cover staff absence or to provide role specific training to other members of the team. Participation in an out of hours phone only rota is expected.

The successful candidate will be qualified and registered with the RCVS.

This a truly rewarding role within a charity setting that is really making a difference to the lives of animals and people in our community. The successful candidate will be rewarded with job satisfaction and the real scope to develop their skills in many aspects of the running of a small animal charity clinic.
