The College of Animal Welfare was first established in 1989 by one of the leading animal welfare charities Wood Green Animal Shelter.  The vision was to use education to help tackle animal welfare issues and the problem of unwanted animals.

In 1996 the College, known at the time as the Wood Green College of Animal Welfare, became independent of the charity as a not for profit organisation in its own right and changed its name to The College of Animal Welfare.

To this day the College maintains strong links with the animal welfare sector and the veterinary profession, particularly with Wood Green The Animals Charity, the Blue Cross, the Royal Society for the Protection of Cruelty to Animals, the Royal Veterinary College and the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons as well as numerous veterinary practices and animal related businesses

College Principal (and founding manager), Barbara Cooper, said “We are thrilled to be celebrating our silver jubilee this year. I have been at the College since its inception in 1989, and am proud of the way the College has grown and developed over the past 25 years”.

In recognition of our 25 year anniversary, we held a number of celebratory and fundraising events and special offers throughout 2014.
