Equine Veterinary Nursing comes to CAW!

The College of Animal Welfare (CAW) are thrilled to announce that they are now offering the equine pathway of the City & Guilds Level 3 Diploma in Veterinary Nursing qualification.

Available on a block release basis at their Huntingdon centre, starting 11 February 2019, the opportunity to study this recognised qualification is set to be in high demand. CAW already train approximately 20% of the UK’s veterinary nurses; the launch of this qualification now allows those looking to study equine veterinary nursing the chance to join this training provider too.

The role of an Equine Veterinary Nurse is certainly a varied role, with no two days the same. This programme will provide the chance to study with likeminded people and become a highly valued member of practice. Students will undertake 13 core units and then six pathway units which cover equine topics specific to those nursing horses in a veterinary practice setting such as emergency and critical care, neonatal care and pre-operative support for horses.

Available to study as a main aim qualification or as an apprenticeship this course can be undertaken from as little as £750 per year.

Frank Taylor, Vice Principal Veterinary Studies, welcomes the additional course to CAW saying “The College of Animal Welfare have a well-earned reputation within the veterinary industry. It’s really exciting that now we can deliver the same quality training to those wishing to study within the equine field too.”

To study this course, students must be working in an equine or mixed (equine and small animal) veterinary practice that is approved by the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (RCVS) to train veterinary nurses; a Training Practice (TP) or Auxiliary Training Practice (aTP). In order to celebrate the launch of this new course, CAW are pleased to offer free Training Practice approval to any equine veterinary practice that submits their completed TP application form back to the College before 31 December 2019.

The College are also happy to be in a position to support block students with accommodation throughout their time attending college if required. For further information on availability and associated costs please do get in touch.

With the course starting soon, enrolment is now open! More information about studying this qualification can be found at www.caw.ac.uk/equinevn or by calling the College on 01480 422060.
