Veterinary Nursing Apprenticeship Standard Now Available

Huge reduction in cost for the new Veterinary Nursing Apprenticeship Standard – Now Available!

Great news – the new Veterinary Nursing Apprenticeship Standard has just been released by the Institute for Apprenticeships!

If you are a small employer (you have an annual payroll bill of less than £3 million) you can now train a VN apprentice for just £1,500 (only £750 per year!). If you are part of a large organisation you can also benefit with all fees now being payable from your levy funds.

All fees are fully inclusive of RCVS student enrolment, awarding body registration and first exam attempts – that’s an additional saving of over £660!

This change is happening now! The College of Animal Welfare are offering the new VN Apprenticeship Standard in place of the existing VN Apprenticeship Framework ready for an apprentices looking to start this September!

Interested in finding out more? Here are some quick facts to get you started:

  • Apprenticeship eligibility checks still apply. For example the individual must live and spend at least 50% of their working time in England.
  • The new apprenticeship standard includes and End Point Assessment to qualify, this involves undertaking a professional discussion as well as the OCSE examination.
  • As is currently the case, apprentices are still required to spend 20% of their working hours undertaking off-the-job training supported by the employer. For example this can include day release to college, shadowing and mentoring in the workplace, events CPD and online training.
  • The apprenticeship is expected to take 30 – 36 months to complete with the first two years being the academic course with mandatory college attendance
